Pool Filter Cleaning in the Coachella Valley

Desert dust fills pool filters faster than almost anywhere else. A proper clean restores flow, takes the strain off your pump, and lets your chemicals do their job again.

Why filters matter more in the desert

Out here the air itself is the problem. Wind lifts fine dust and grit off open desert and drops it into every pool in the valley, day after day. That material does not dissolve and it does not go away — it ends up packed into your filter, which is exactly where it is supposed to end up. The catch is that a filter full of desert dust stops being a filter and starts being a restriction.

When flow drops, three things follow. Your pump works harder and runs hotter to move less water. Your chemicals stop circulating properly, so the chlorine you are paying for never reaches half the pool. And the water goes dull — not green, not obviously bad, just never quite clear — which is the symptom most people try to fix by adding more chemicals when the actual problem is that nothing is moving.

How often should it be done?

There is no single number, because it depends on your filter type, how many hours your pump runs, how exposed your yard is, and how much the pool gets used. The practical approach is to work off pressure rather than the calendar: note the gauge reading right after a clean, and clean again when it has risen roughly 8–10 psi above that baseline.

What we can say is that valley pools generally need it more often than the manual suggests, because the manual was not written for a place where the wind delivers a fresh load of dust every few days. If you have never had yours done, or you cannot remember the last time, it is almost certainly due.

What’s included

  • Disassemble the filter housing and remove the cartridges or grids
  • Rinse and clean each cartridge or grid thoroughly, pleat by pleat
  • Inspect for wear — tears, collapsed pleats, damaged bands or seals
  • Reassemble the housing with everything seated correctly
  • Pressure check so you know your clean baseline going forward

If we find something worn out, we will tell you and show you. We are not going to quietly reassemble a torn cartridge and let you wonder in two weeks why the water is still cloudy.

Questions

Filter cleaning FAQs

How do I know when my pool filter needs cleaning?

The pressure gauge is the most reliable tell. Note the reading right after a clean — that is your baseline — and clean again when it climbs roughly 8–10 psi above it. You will often notice the softer signs first: weaker return jets, the pool taking longer to clear after a windy day, or water that stays slightly dull no matter what you add to it.

What kinds of filters do you clean?

We clean cartridge filters and DE grid filters — the two you will find on most residential pools around the valley. If you are not sure which you have, tell us what is written on the tank when you call and we will sort it out from there.
